WHY you should book a Makeup Artist/ Hairstylist for your event?

I'M CHARLOTTE

My first ever blog was to share with you all my top tips on HOW to choose the perfect Makeup Artist/ Hairstylist for your special event/ wedding. Looking back, I really should have started with the WHY? But it is always better late than never right?

“What” and “If” are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life: What if? What if? What if? – Letters to Juliet

Ok, so comparing this quote to whether or not you choose to have your wedding Makeup and/or Hair styled may be a little extravagant but I do hear all too often from brides that they really regretted NOT having their makeup done professionally for their wedding day. With that in mind, I wanted to (hopefully!) provide you with a little bit of an insight into what we as mua’s and hairdressers have to offer you! Dare I say it may well help you make that all-important decision!

Let’s start at the beginning, applying your own makeup on a day to day basis is almost second nature. We barely even need to think about it, we are experts at our daily makeup routine, we master the mascara on the tube, we adapt to using one product in several ways so we don’t have to purchase a thousand separate items, I mean as long as we look fresh and healthy, we’re winning aren’t we? And don’t get me started on the messy bun we have told ourselves is an effortlessly chic style and totally passes us off as a cool, modern woman. But it’s your wedding day and the thought of doing your makeup and/ or hair whilst being nervous can be a little daunting, the pressure is on because let’s face it when we are feeling anxious, that sleek winged liner application you can usually apply whilst performing a back somersault with a twist to boot, is going to be a little trickier and when you are putting pressure on yourself, you just aren’t in the right mindset to perfect your application and feel like the goddess you are.

So by booking a pro beauty expert, you are taking that weight off your shoulders waaaaaaaay before the wedding day, so instead of wasting your time searching for the best foundations to ensure longevity, you can relax knowing that you have someone with all the expertise you could possibly need, a person who has tried and tested many products to guarantee that you have the PERFECT foundation to suit your skin and will leave you feeling fabulous from morning until evening (sometimes your application can even make its way to breakfast with you the next day), giving you all the confidence you need to flaunt down that aisle in style!

It isn’t all about the flawless application though or the luxury products, the incredible variety and even the excellent techniques. When you decide to book yourself a Makeup Artist/ Hairstylist, you are allowing yourself to have an experience. An experience you can truly treasure because putting that responsibility into someone else’s hands will gift you the time you ought to have to enjoy your wedding morning with your bridesmaids and mother. It is certainly a luxury we do not have all time, so you should certainly take advantage of it at such an event because, in the words of Maybelline, you’re worth it! Time flies when you’re having fun by any experienced artist/ stylist will also make sure everyone is where they need to be, when they need to be, taking on the honorary role of your very own wedding coordinator for one morning only.

I should probably mention a mua’s kit since it isn’t like any ordinary beauty bag you’ll have seen. It boasts a huge array of the finest and most magnificent products you’ll have seen, all bought with purpose. A purpose to promise longevity, come rain or shine (even through tears). A promise that each product used is suitable for your skin type and matched perfectly to your skin tone so you look absolutely glowing as every bride should. A promise that everything used will look absolutely fantastic on camera too so that you can look at your photos for years to come!

Remember if you decide to book, your beauty stylist is there for you whenever you may need them and for whatever you need, so make use of them, ask them the hair, makeup and skincare questions you’ve always wanted answers to. First. . . What Are Semi-Permanent Brows?

Semi-permanent brows involve placing pigment into the skin to enhance your natural brow shape.

This isn’t old-school tattooing.
Modern techniques are softer, more refined and designed to fade naturally over time.

The goal isn’t to give you “blocky” brows.
It’s to give you balance, structure and definition in a way that still feels like you.

The Three Main Brow Styles

When clients come in, this is usually the first question: What’s the difference between them?

Powder Brows

This gives a soft, shaded effect, like a perfectly blended brow makeup look.

It’s ideal if you:
 • Wear brow products daily
 • Prefer a more polished finish
 • Have oily skin where hairstrokes may blur
It heals beautifully soft and diffused.

Hairstroke Brows

Fine strokes that mimic natural hairs.

Best suited to:
 • Normal to dry skin
 • Clients wanting something very subtle
 • Those with some existing brow hair
This is about realism and delicacy.

Combination Brows

A mix of both, hairstrokes at the front, soft shading through the body and tail.

This is one of the most versatile options and works beautifully for many clients wanting definition without harshness.

The right choice always depends on your skin type, lifestyle and overall look, which is why consultation is so important.

Does It Hurt?

Honestly? Less than people expect.

A topical anaesthetic is applied throughout the procedure to keep you comfortable.

Most clients describe it as a light scratching sensation, more strange than painful.

What About Healing?

This is the part people don’t always realise.

Your brows will look darker and more defined immediately after treatment. That’s completely normal.

Over the next 7–10 days:

They soften

They lighten

The true colour settles

A perfecting session at 6–8 weeks is essential to refine shape and colour.

Results usually last 12–24 months depending on your skin type, sun exposure and skincare routine.

Choosing the Right Artist Matters

Brows frame your entire face.

This isn’t something you want done quickly or cheaply.

Understanding face shape, symmetry, undertones and pigment choice is crucial. So is knowing when to say no.

In my clinic, we measure carefully, map thoroughly and never rush. The aim is always balance and longevity — not trends.

You should leave feeling more like yourself. Just with less daily effort.

Semi-permanent brows are about ease.

About waking up and already feeling put together.
About not worrying if your brows have rubbed off at the gym.
About subtle confidence.

If you’re considering semi-permanent brows in Bury St Edmunds, you can book a consultation via the website.

I keep clinic days limited to ensure every client receives a fully bespoke experience.
